COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Updates

The COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) expired on May 11, 2023.

Many services and offerings that were previously available to Penn State students will change:

  1. Insurance coverage:  Students should check their health insurance coverage as certain services may now have an out-of-pocket cost. If you're under or uninsured, please reach out to Student Care and Advocacy for assistance.

  2. Mandatory masking is no longer required in the Student Health Center unless:

    1. You or a close contact recently tested positive for COVID-19

    2. You are experiencing any of the following symptoms: fever, shortness of breath, cough, loss of taste or smell, headache or fatigue, stomach illness, or cold/flu-like symptoms.

  3. COVID-19 tests must be scheduled via myUHS. The testing boxes closed May 5, 2023.

  4. The University strongly recommends students to bring with them a minimum of 4 COVID-19 at-home tests kits. Rapid antigen home test kits are available while supplies last in the Community Health office on the 2nd floor of the Student Health Center. They will also be on-hand in the common areas of all resident housing and made available to roommate(s). Visit the COVID-19 testing webpage for more information.

  5. The primary vaccine series will no longer be offered at UHS, but students can still receive the Moderna bivalent booster through a nurse appointment. Visit the COVID-19 vaccine webpage for more details.
